A Different Approach for Aches and Pains in Lane Cove

 In Case Studies

We’ve recently had a write up on our local community website – In The Cove

The founder of In The Cove (also know as ITC) recently visited North Shore Structural Integration with a hip injury, and she details her story below (taken directly from the ITC website):

“You might not know this but there is such a thing as an Air BnB injury.  After staying in an Air Bnb with a wonky mattress, ITC’s hip was extremely painful.  The mattress had seen better days and the springs really played havoc with my hip and back.

I was explaining my pain to Liane at Pilates Connection and she suggested I try Structural Integration.  I had no idea what that was but I was willing to give it a try and it worked.

If you’re like me and have no idea what Structural Integration (SI) – this is what SI is all about.

Unlike massage, SI focuses on the body’s fascia. A system of connective tissue that runs throughout the body like a continuous web surrounding the muscles, bones, organs, veins and nerves, helping to give the body its shape and structure. Healthy fascia allows the muscles to slide and glide over one-another, but unhealthy fascia does the very opposite, restricting movement and pulling the body out of alignment, causing aching muscles and joint pain. After SI treatment clients have noticed:

  • Fewer muscle aches and joint pain
  • Increased mobility and flexibility
  • Improved posture
  • Better body alignment
  • Enables muscles to work correctly

I attended three sessions and by the last session, the stiffness and pain in my hip had gone.  SI is definitely not like a massage.  I always fall asleep when having a massage.  SI involves you working with the practitioner.  In the spirit of full disclosure, it can be intense.  I have a low pain threshold (I booked in for the epidural on the way to the maternity ward).  However, even with my low pain threshold, the treatment was fine.

What I liked about Liane’s approach was she did not want me to just have short-term relief, she wanted to get to the root of the problem.  There is a beginning and end to the process.

Liane’s wants to create an environment where the client becomes independent and stable on their own, rather than creating a long-term dependency on the therapist or continued work, as seen with some other modalities.

So, if you have been experiencing long-term aches and pains why not give SI a go?”SI is best suited to addressing long-term aches, pains, injuries and restrictions, which other therapies may only have offered short-term relief. Post-treatment regular movement and exercise, such as Pilates will help to maintain your newfound flexibility, alignment and strength. As encouragement, all North Shore Structural Integration clients receive 30% off their first starter pack at Pilates Connection.
